This year Interval House launched a groundbreaking pilot program that has the potential to change how abused women access housing and employment services in the future. When women can't find housing, they are forced to stay in shelters longer. And when they can't move out, shelters can't accept new families. This puts lives at risk. Our new program, Opening Doors, provides 50 women with a subsidy to help with her rent for two years. The cornerstone of this program is the employment and housing supports that she receives. By focusing on career goals, women in this program have a better chance of paying market rent for apartments in safe communities, and leaving shelters and subsidized housing once and for all.
