Winter Holiday Magic

Santa at Interval House

Celebrating Christmas at Interval House is enough to make you believe in miracles. We know from experience that Christmas can be an especially difficult time for families in crisis. When the holiday season approaches, we start to see an influx of calls and requests for help. The reality is that behind closed doors there are families reaching a breaking point. And there are women who are frightened and need a safe place to turn.

Thanks to generous supporters like you, the staff and volunteers at Interval House are standing by, prepared with food, beds and clothing, and shoulders to cry on.

Imagine how devastating it must be for children who are living in a shelter over Christmas while friends at school are making wish lists and travel plans to visit grandma. Having left their previous homes behind, the children living at Interval House often worry that Santa will not be able to find them. But every year, thanks to the generous spirit of donors like you, Interval House is transformed into a place with its own kind of magic. A place where every child will have at least one gift with their name on it.

Our holiday parties do make dreams come true. We even create a toy “shopping” area, where our former residents who are just getting back on their feet, can come and pick out toys for their kids to give to them on Christmas day. We are so touched to see an outpouring of generosity each year: children’s gifts are generously donated and groups of volunteers lovingly prepare a holiday feast. We look forward to a visit from Santa while Rubina, one of our kids’ counsellors, leads everyone in a joyous carol sing-a-long.

Your support for Interval House helps to make these important events possible so that abused women can feel respected and begin to build trust after a time of crisis. Thanks to you, more women and children have the support they need to move in the direction of positive and hopeful new beginnings.
