In our last article, we talked about knowing the signs of E-VAW. Now, it’s time to look at what you can do to protect yourself and others from electronic violence.
Recently, a lot of highly useful apps have been created that survivors, victims, and advocates can use in an effort to put an end to violence against women. Here are some examples:
This app sends an alert to your emergency contacts, in case anything happens to you. For example, if the app suddenly shuts down, the apps’ servers will still trace your last known location in order to help find you.
Circle of 6
Similar to Guard my Angel, this app allows women to choose six people to alert when they feel their safety is threatened. The app sends an emergency text to the emergency contacts with your location and a message that explains what you’d like them to do to help make sure you’re safe.
The way you use technology can either help keep you safe or put you at risk. Remember to ask a lot of questions when you’re working with a new technology, and think about how it could impact your life.
