TJX’s Volunteer Group creates Project Joy

They say it takes a village. At Interval House our “village” of volunteers comes in all shapes and sizes. TJX is inclusive of Winners, HomeSense, and Marshalls stores and makes up part of that village. One of its corporate philanthropy goals includes a commitment to helping families make the transition to a new beginning. In 2013, TJX Canada came to Interval House for the first time and a partnership blossomed.

Eager to get involved and help make a difference, the TJX volunteer group has come to the shelter to cook, to celebrate holidays and to share some career-building advice. But if there’s one thing the folks at TJX understand it’s how to make a house feel like a home. They recognize that moving to a women’s shelter is an incredibly difficult and often terrifying step. It’s what inspired them to initiate “Project Joy”, a program dedicated to making rooms in the shelter more personal and homey.

The group has donated new furniture, bedding, towels, bathroom accessories, rugs and artwork. The plan is to foster a long-term partnership, with multiple visits to redecorate more rooms. They believe in creating a beautiful, peaceful and joyful home for Interval House’s women and children, so that the surroundings can become part of the healing process.

Project Joy proves that we all have something to give—and that strong community partnerships do make a difference. If you or your organization want to get involved, you can learn more about volunteer opportunities at Interval House on our website: www.intervalhouse.ca/take-action/volunteering
