Springtime is here at last! At Interval House, the warmer weather means fun family trips to the local park, preparations for spring planting in our gardens, and setting goals for new beginnings. Last week, it also meant exciting spring festivities with some CIBC volunteers!
The kids were more than eager to participate in an egg hunt organized by our CIBC volunteers, who came in to prepare dinner, but also hid some yummy treats around the shelter for our littlest residents to find along the way. Everyone enjoyed the bright, excited eyes on the kids as they dashed around, searching for the chocolate- and candy-filled eggs, which popped up in some unexpected places!
There was also sugar cookie decorating and a mini spa night for the women at the house. Volunteers did manicures and facials for the women residents, giving them an opportunity for some much needed relaxation.
While providing emergency shelter, counselling, and specialized programs are the core of our mission at Interval House, a crucial part of the healing process is building a sense of community and fostering self-care. Volunteer groups like CIBC offer opportunities for women and children healing from abuse to just sit back and have fun. Thanks very much to the volunteers that made this special evening happen. It was a great way to kick off spring and bid adieu to winter.
