An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds 1000 origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. Kids in Interval House’s Children’s Program folded 1000 colourful cranes and sent them to families in Japan to show their support after the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
It’s just one of the ways we encourage children escaping abuse to begin to heal – by helping others. Boys and girls who have witnessed or endured horrendous violence need special care – and this care must consider the unique needs of each child. Our children’s counselling programs are unstructured, leaving room for our Children’s Counsellor Advocates to use play and one-on-one interaction to observe how abuse has affected the children and how best to help them heal.
