Celebrating Success at the 5th Annual BESS Graduation Ceremony

For many, June is graduation month, and the same goes for Interval House! Every June, we plan a graduation ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of the women who completed our Building Economic Self-Sufficiency (BESS) Program over the past year. And this year’s Fifth Annual BESS Graduation was a big success!

Last week, Interval House BESS graduates, supporters, staff, and volunteers came together at Hart House on the University of Toronto campus for a reception and ceremony to mark the occasion. Complete with live music, speeches, awards, and diplomas for all the graduates, it was a true celebration of the amazing achievements of the women in BESS.

BESS (Building Economic Self-Sufficiency) is an innovative and successful employment program that helps abused women get back on their feet and achieve economic independence. The program provides employment workshops, job development, referrals and ongoing case management. For many women in the program, taking the step towards independence and self-sufficiency might have been unthinkable at one time. And so it’s a truly emotional and special night for the women in attendance who have said “Yes, I can.”

A big thank you goes out the event sponsors and supporters that made this special night possible:

We couldn’t offer this life-changing program without the help of our friends in the community, who support the program as donors, employer partners, and volunteers. In the words of one of our award recipients after the event:

“Still I can’t believe it is real! Suddenly my life starts changing. And all this because of you… To all of you, and those that are behind this organization, thank you so much!”

On behalf of all of us at Interval House, thank you to all those who attended our BESS Graduation, and best wishes to the graduates as you begin your career journeys!
