2013 - A Year to Remember

Last year, Interval House celebrated our 40th anniversary as Canada’s first shelter for abused women and their children. As with any milestone, we took the time to reflect on everything that our supporters helped us accomplish over the years. With the help of people like you, we opened the first shelter in Canada, and provided a home and a fresh start for thousands of women and their children.

In our 40th year, our volunteers and friends in the community showed incredible support to Interval House.
Here are just a few examples of the things we were able to accomplish last year thanks to you, and our friends in the community:
• 77 women and 80 children found shelter at our home
• Women shared their feelings, hopes, and fears during 194 hours of group counselling
• 70 women graduated from our Building Economic Self Sufficiency (BESS) program
• 10 housing workshops were delivered to help women understand their housing options, and their tenant rights and responsibilities

Not only do our friends provide critical funding for our programs, but you also helped provide childcare, researched important program practices and trends, provided housing and BESS support, and so much more. But most importantly, you ensured women and children continued to receive the help they need, to giving families a place to call home. All of this and more changed the lives of countless families who will never forget everyone who was there for them in their time of need.

A lot happened that made 2013 a year to remember. Thanks to you and the incredible support of the community, the hundreds of women and children who walked through our doors were able to close a dark chapter in their lives, and embark on a new journey filled with hope.
