March Theme of the Month: Diversity!

Each month, Interval House picks a theme to reflect on. This month our theme is diversity.

Posted up on our theme board is a map of the world. We've asked all the kids to write a description of themselves and pin it up on the country they're from. We have a really diverse group - with kids from Vietnam, Mexico, and right here in Canada. Even the counsellors pinned themselves up on the map, adding places like Pakistan, Tanzania and Haiti.

Children's Art for Black History Month

Masks

This week, the kids made masks as part of our Black History Month Activities. They're drying on the windowsill, on display for everyone to see!

2011 means new beginnings

Theme of the Month - January 2011

Each month, we select a theme for our theme board and tack up artwork from the women's and children's groups. January's theme was "New Beginnings" to reflect the fresh start families get when they come to the centre.

Urgent!

We desperately need to raise $ 44,000 before March 1 in order to ensure that ever y woman and child who comes to us for shelter from her own winter storm can be accommodated with a safe place to stay, nourishing food and assistance to rebuild lives. Please, consider sending a gift today and stand with us this winter.

Renovation Update: Focus on our BESS Program

BESS Resource Centre

The BESS (Building Economic Self- Sufficiency) Program, an employment program for women who have survived abuse, is in its new home within Interval House. The new space comprises a brand new Education Room, Computer Lab, Private Counselling Room and Career Boutique. This space will allow us to assist even more women in finding meaningful employment, while helping them with insight into the barriers, often related to abuse, that may have kept them from moving forward in the job market.
