These were the joy-filled shouts of our youngest residents on Christmas morning. Because of friends like you, the holiday season was filled with happiness, presents, and lots of sparkly Christmas ornaments!
When a women graduates from the intensive 2-week Building Economic Self-Sufficiency (BESS) workshop, she is proving to herself that she is no longer a victim. It is a day to celebrate her movement forward into confidence and economic independence.
It was on this day, 23 years ago, that 14 young women were murdered while attending class at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. The reason for their deaths? They were women. This act of violence shocked the nation and in 1991 the Parliament (government?) of Canada officially declared December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
